Fogarty Scholarship Program

Dear Scholarship Applicants,

The Fogarty International Center through the Fogarty AIDS International Training Research Program (AITRP) at the University of Maryland is providing a limited number of scholarships for investigators from low and middle income countries to attend the 11th Annual International Meeting of the Institute of Human Virology. Scholarships will be provided to applicants who submit worthy abstracts that focus on research that is relevant to international implementation of PEPFAR and Global Fund programs and related topics of scientific and public health importance in the setting of the research priorities of developing countries. Current and former trainees of the Fogarty AIDS International Training Research Program (AITRP) and the International Clinical, Operational, and Health Services Research and Training Award (ICOHRTA), as well as recipients of the Global Research Initiative Program for New Foreign Investigators (GRIP) are encouraged to submit abstracts. Abstracts from other research investigators from low and middle-income countries with relevant research are also eligible, but former Fogarty trainees will receive preference. However, scientific quality will be the major criteria for selection. The 11th Annual International Meeting of the Institute of Human Virology, September 11-13, 2008 will be held at the Renaissance Harbor Place Hotel in Baltimore.

Full scholarship awards will be made on a rolling admission basis. To apply for a scholarship please complete the following steps:

  1. Download and complete the Application form.
  2. Download and complete the Fogarty Scholarship Abstract form.
  3. Send completed application and Fogarty Scholarship abstract to wblattner@ihv.umaryland.edu.

Trainees will be notified on or before August 20, 2008 of scholarship awards. Scholarships will include full meeting registration, round trip air travel to Baltimore, ground transportation, local hotel accommodations and a small meal allowance for the period of the conference only. Invitation letters will be provided for trainees to obtain visas.

We are grateful to the Fogarty International Center, especially Drs. Ken Bridbord and Jeanne McDermott, for their commitment in supporting trainees. We look forward to hosting some of you in vibrant research meetings at the 11th annual International Meeting of the Institute of Human Virology. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at wblattner@ihv.umaryland.edu.

Sincerely,
